FOREWORD BY FOUNDER PRESIDENT

Founder President, NSSA

PROF. P. S. RAMANI

It gives me great pleasure to announce that SPINE 2018, the Annual Conference of Neuro-Spinal Surgeons Association of India(NSSA) will be held from 28th-30th September 2018 in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

Dr Sameer Paltewar the local neuro-spinal surgeon and Chairman of Meditrina Superspeciality Hospital is the Organising President. Dr Paltewar is young, intelligent, pro-active and dynamic. With these qualities, I feel confident that SPINE 2018 will be an eventful activity.

Already, faculty from USA, England, South America, Indonesia, Thailand, Ukraine, South Korea, Japan, Africa and Egypt have confirmed their participation in this conference.

It gives me the pride to speculate that with such global participation, the academic standards of the meeting are going to be quite high. The science of Spinal Surgery is moving towards Minimally invasive concepts and meetings such as this not only helps to propagate but it also teaches our young generation the techniques of minimally invasive concepts.

A word of caution. The younger generation is very eager to use as many implants to give early relief and satisfaction to the patient. The natural law suggests that over-enthusiasm can lead to overuse. We must teach our young surgeons to have healthy relations with the implant industry and be on the right side of guidelines advocated by governing bodies like MCI.

Today, India has significantly progressed towards using newer technological advances for the benefit of patients who can leave the hospital very quickly and the most significant development is the fact that they can resume their original work in a short time, however hard it may be. It is a real breakthrough development in neuro-spinal surgery.

On the whole, SPINE 2018 promises to be an academic feast, spiced with absorbing deliberations like interactive sessions, hands-on workshops and significant participation in the deliberations by the younger generations.

My best wishes will always remain with Dr Sameer Paltewar.
